Current JobDean of Faculty of Health Sciences TCD Career HistoryProfessor McCarron as Dean currently provides academic and strategic leadership to the Faculties four schools; Nursing and Midwifery, Medicine, Dental Science, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Prior to her appointment as Dean of Health Sciences, Professor McCarron served as Head of School at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Trinity College and played a key roles as Director of Research. Professor McCarron teaches across the nursing curriculum providing critical content of intellectual disability nursing, ageing, dementia, palliative care and chronic illness and has led initiatives around the development of an interdisciplinary MSc in Palliative Care, interdisciplinary MSc in dementia. Professor McCarron research area is in Ageing and Intellectual Disability (ID) fitting closely with Trinity College's research agenda on Ageing and with particular expertise in (a) generic ageing, (b) the presentation and management of dementia and (c) the provision of palliative care. She holds a research assistant Professorship at the Centre for Excellence in Ageing & Community Wellness at the University at Albany NY. Advisory/ CommitteesProfessor McCarron is an active member of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disability (IASSID) and member of the Specialist Interest Group on Ageing; and Down Syndrome Specialist Interest Group. Chair and Host of the 2011 IASSID Roundtable on Ageing held at Trinity College Dublin. National Designated Expert on Ageing, Dementia and Palliative Care in Persons with Intellectual Disability for National Federation of Voluntary Bodies. Irish lead on the task force for the European Association of Palliative in Long-Term Care Settings for Older People. She also serves on numerous National and International Bodies in the Health sector. |
